About

All Nippon Airways, ANA for short and also known as Zennikkū (全日空)is a Japanese airline that is based at Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) and Haneda Airport (HND). The airline offers both domestic and international flights and serves destinations from countries across Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. Overall, the airline flies to more than 120 destinations.

ANA was founded as Nippon Helicopter in 1952, offering helicopter flights only. In 1955, the airline received its first jet airliner (Douglas DC-3) and rebranded as All Nippon Airways in the years following. The airline expanded its domestic route network over the next three decades and launched its first international flights in 1986 with a flight from Tokyo to Guam.

Today, ANA is the largest airline in Japan by both destinations flown to and passengers served by year. The airline has a number of wholly-owned and partly owned subsidiaries, including Air Japan, ANA Wings, Air Do, Peach Aviation, Vanilla Air, Philippine Airlines and Vietnam Airlines. The airline has been receiving 5-star rating for the 7th consecutive years since 2013.

Food

Depending on the flight, passengers may be able to enjoy the cuisine of ANA’s various food programs complimentary or for purchase.

• Economy and Premium Economy: ANA Tasty Delights are offered in Premium Economy. Inflight menus on flights departing from Japan feature passengers’ favorite meals as chosen by customers in the In-Flight Meal General Election 2016. Additional offerings include KAYANOYA soup, freshly baked bread, aromatic kabosu (a citrus beverage), Arare rice crackers, and candy.
• Business Class: Passengers enjoy multi-course international cuisine and Japanese cuisine as part of ANA Original menus created by The CONNOISSEURS, celebrity chefs from inside and outside Japan, ANA’s own chefs, and beverage specialists. Some routes also feature the pastries of Pierre Hermé.
• First Class: Passengers enjoy multi-course international cuisine and Japanese cuisine as part of ANA Original menus created by The CONNOISSEURS, celebrity chefs from inside and outside Japan, ANA’s own chefs, and beverage specialists. Light dishes like ramen, tonkatsu, and Arare rice crackers are available anytime inflight.

First Class

The First Class cabin is at the height of luxury, with passengers receiving ultimate in-flight experience with space, privacy and comfort. However, only the Airbus A380 and the Boeing B777-300ER are equipped with First Class facilities.

What does First Class Include?

Passengers have a 58 cm (23″) touchscreen personal screen, with noise-cancelling headphones. There’s also a large adjustable dining table and cocktail table for you to be able to enjoy your first-class dining experience. There is also storage compartments for any clothes or bags you may wish to stow away for your flight. The enclosure for First Class passengers have doors, so passengers can choose to remain private and enjoy their own personal space. Seats include power charging points, with USB slots.

Passengers can also enjoy a seamless check-in service, eliminating regular queues at the airport.

Does First Class Facilities Have a First Class Lounge?

There is an ANA lounge at Haneda and Narita International Airports, along with some at other airports. They provide passengers with a full-course dining experience, comparable to that in a highly-rated restaurant.

ANA offers free baggage allowance for international route sectors. ANA has a website to help passengers determine how much free baggage can be checked based on their tickets. Here are answers to frequently asked questions about checked baggage.

• ANA First Class: Up to three pieces of luggage weighing up to 70lbs each.
• ANA Business Class: Up to two pieces of luggage weighing up to 70lbs each.
• ANA Economy and Premium Economy: Up to two pieces of luggage weighing up to 50lbs each.

Total linear dimensions are 62.20in (length X width X height), including wheels and handle. For , free baggage allowance is based on the boarded class of service plus one additional piece free of charge. Food

All passengers are given complimentary meals on long-haul international flights. The higher the cabin class, the greater choice and better quality of meal passengers receive, with First Class offering an outstanding in-flight dining experience.

Passengers on domestic or short-haul flights in Economy Class can order light meals, snacks and drinks once in-flight. Passengers flying in other classes on these flights are entitled to complimentary snacks and drinks for the duration of the flight.

Any passenger that requires a special meal must request it with us or the airline directly at least 24 hours before their flight.

In-Flight Entertainment

Complimentary in-flight entertainment is available on international flights, with a selection of blockbuster movies, TV shows, music and Japanese entertainment. Passengers have access to the same in-flight entertainment system in all classes. However, those in the higher-tier classes are given larger and better quality screens and headphones.

Passengers can also pre-download the ANA app to their mobile device and use the MY SKY CHANNEL section of the app to browse the list of entertainment offered on MY SKY CHANNEL. Passengers can favourite entertainment that they want to watch and once in-flight, connect their mobile device to quickly access their favourites and use the mobile as a remote control to pause, stop and play videos.

Seating for infants and children

Infants (below two-years-old) may travel on the lap of an adult on an infant fare. Infants can be seated in a seat, but the accompanying adult should hold the infant in his/her lap when the seatbelt light is on. Bassinets are available for customers who reserve them in advance. Infants who are not held by an adult and are unable to sit upright with the seat belt fastened must be carried in a child seat that is certified in Japan (MLIT), Europe (ECE R44), U.S. (FMVSS1) or the CARES (child aviation restraint system, for children weighing between 22 and 44 pounds). ANA does not provide child restraint systems or child safety seats, and additional information about acceptable child seats can be found here. Infants using a seat are charged the child fare. Children age two to 11 must be seated in a seat and pay the child fare. Unaccompanied children age five to 11 must be seated in a seat and pay the adult fare.

Online Check-in – International Flights

Online Check-in is available

• For passengers with e-tickets (online, up to 9 people at once; on mobile devices, the procedure must be done for one person at a time).
• Via ANA SKY WEB or ANA SKY MOBILE.
• From 24 hours (local time) up to 75 minutes prior to departure.
• For eligible flights
  • All international flights operated by ANA Group.
  • Flights operated by partner airlines connecting to/from ANA international flights (Through Check-in).
  • ANA domestic flights connecting to/from ANA international flights (Through Check-in).

Online Check-in is not available in the following situations:

• For passengers traveling with an infant.
• If the flight to/from Japan is a codeshare flight operated by another airline.
• For passengers with medical certificates.
• For passengers who purchased extra seats to carry on bulky baggage.

After Online Check-in, you must obtain your boarding pass through either one of the options below:

• Mobile Boarding Pass – you can board by displaying the 2D barcode with your mobile device.
• Printed boarding pass
  • Before arriving at the airport – the 2D barcode must be shown when printing out the boarding pass.
  • At the airport – either at the Self Check-in machine (available at selected airports) or at the Baggage Drop Off counter.

ANA purchased another 20 Boeing 787s

There are 20 Boeing 787 orders are placed from the airline including the B787-10 and the B787-9 variants. 11 of the 20 orders are for the -10 version and the rest are for the -9 model. These aircraft will be flying on both domestic and international routes for ANA. Three additional 787-9s are planned to be acquired from Atlantis Aviation Corporation by the airline too.

ANA to start services to Milan

The Japanese carrier announced to start serving Milan in April 2020, with 3 weekly flights operated by the Boeing B787-9.

There are also 4 other flights that are announced to launch in 2020. This includes flights to Shenzhen, Istanbul, Moscow and Stockholm. Most of the flights will be starting from June / July time and most routes will be operated by the Boeing 787s except for the flight to Moscow.

Through Check-in

This service is available when the following conditions are met:

• The minimum connection time is met, and the reservation for the connecting flight is confirmed.
• The connecting flight is operated by ANA or a partner airline for Through Check-in.

The Through Check-in service and issuing boarding passes for connecting flights may not be available due to limitations of the partner airlines’ system or connecting airport.

ANA Japan domestic flight – ANA international flight:

• At all domestic airports in Japan (except Iki and Kitakyushu airports), passengers can proceed with Through Check-in to an ANA international flight, and the baggage will be carried to the destination.
• Through Check-in at an ANA Japan domestic flight will be accepted at the ANA check-in counter. Passengers should complete the check-in 30 minutes prior to departure.
• Passengers who have completed Through Check-in online do not need to check in at the airport. They should proceed to the Baggage Check-in Counter directly.

ANA international flight – ANA Japan domestic flight:

• When connecting from an ANA international flight to an ANA domestic flight, passengers can proceed with Through Check-in at the international departure airport.
• It may be necessary to check in the baggage again due to customs.
• Through Baggage Check-in service can be accepted only when it is a same day connection.

ANA international flight – ANA international flight:

Passengers connecting to an ANA international flight on the same day can check in, including baggage, through to the final destination.

ANA international flight – Partner Airline’s Flight:

• Through Check-in is available when connecting from an ANA international flight to a partner airline’s flight on the same day.
• The boarding pass for the partner airline’s flight must be picked up at the ANA counter.
• When making a connection through the U.S., passengers may be required to pick up and check in their baggage again.

In-flight entertainment

ANA offers a good array of in-flight entertainment options, including:

• Portable Media Playera free service in Business Class on select flights that gives passengers access to movies, music, and television shows that can be watched on a portable device.
• Seat-back on-demand: a free service in all classes of service on select flights that offers seat-back screens equipped with films, television shows, and audio programs. Some flights are equipped with satellite television via SKY LIVE TV.
• BookLive: a free service in all classes of service on select flights that offers e-books.
• Inflight magazine: Tsubasa no Okoku is a monthly inflight magazine available on domestic and international flights and WINGSPAN is written in English and Chinese and is available on international flights.
• Inflight Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is available on selected flights for a fee, which varies.
• Inflight Power: Power outlets are available on many flights. ANA provides a portable PC battery rental service to passengers in Business Class on some aircraft that are not equipped with PC power ports.

Narita International Airport

Narita International Airport is an international airport serving Tokyo, Japan and is the hub airport for All Nippon Airways. The airport is located between the city of Narita and Shibayama.

Narita is one of the main international airports in Japan. In 2019, the airport served over 36 million international passengers per year and over 44 million overall. The airport has two runways and three terminal buildings.

Besides ANA, Japan Airlines, Jetstar Japan and Peach Aviation also use Narita International as a hub. Other airlines which fly to and from Narita International Airport include Aeroflot, Air Busan, Air Canada, Skymark Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and many others.

Flying with children

Passengers eight days old to less than two-years-old, on the date of travel, are classified as infants. Infants may sit on an adult’s lap. Passengers traveling with an infant may not be seated in the same seat row as another passenger traveling with an infant due to limited oxygen mask availability. If there is more than one passenger traveling with an infant, passengers must select seats in different rows or across the aisle. An online reservation for one infant not occupying a seat may be made for each adult passenger online. for an infant not occupying a seat is 10-percent of applicable adult fare. Reservations for infants who will be occupying seats cannot be made online. Infant fare for an infant who is occupying a seat is 75-percent of applicable adult fare. Note that infants seven days old and less are not permitted to travel. If there are two or more children under the age of two traveling with the same adult, only one of the children may travel as a lap child. Any additional children are required to have tickets for their own seats.

If children are traveling on their second birthday, child fares should be booked. All children above two-years-old require their own seats and must be secured whenever the seatbelt signs are on. Passengers who are two-years-old to 12-years-old, on the date of travel, are classified as children. If children are traveling on their 12th birthday, adult fares should be booked.

ANA provides a variety of services for passengers traveling with infants or small children on international flights, depending on the airport, aircraft, and route, including airport support services/escort, baby strollers, inflight bassinet for infants not occupying a seat, inflight baby and child meals, and inflight powdered milk, diapers, and toys.
